hope is an act of resistance

These are dark times that test our ability to stay hopeful, but we must if we are to continue to put in the work long term. I understand your patience is tested and your heart is tired, and it feels like nothing you do will ever be enough. If it were all on you, then you'd be right, but you are not alone. Our strength comes from each other, and our power is in our numbers.

Do not give up, there is so much left to do.

Hope is perseverance. hope is hard work. hope is necessary. it is not soft or naive, it is a tool that you *must* utilize, peoples' lives depend on it. So here's some food for hope. let it fuel you.

"I will remain steadfast on my land"

As this brave girl says, "Palestine children do not leave her."

I am humbled by her courage. I feel guilty being inspired by her and learning from her, because I am learning through enormous human suffering. But that guilt is a selfish emotion, because it is only about me, and it doesn't undo the damage the US and Israel have done, that I as a taxpayer have been complicit in. So learn anyway, in spite of the guilt, and and put that feeling into action.

Love is still alive in Palestine, in spite of blind hate.

food is culture, food is community, food is resistance

Recipes I've learned from my Palestinian mother

By Mxriyum

This Palestinian video creator shares her culture through the lens on the food that has been passed down to her. In this video she recognizes the difficulty of creating videos about food while her people are starving, but continues to use her voice and her skills to share the beauty of Palestinian culture through recipes.

Zataar Manakeesh with Khubiz Taboon

Zaatar is a mixture of dried thyme, sesame seeds, sumac, and salt, mixed with olive oil.

It originated in the Levant (the region of the Middle East that includes the historic areas of Palestine, Jordan, Lebanon, and Syria.)

Qidreh

This meal offered up in honor of Hamza, who was a person, who will not be forgotten.

Saj bread

Bison from Gaza (still alive) showed us how they were making saj bread, the food that was available with very limited resources. That was November 13, 2023. In the past months of ongoing slaughter, Israel has further restricted access to food, and is forcing starvation and famine (as oppressors are known to do). People aren't eating saj bread anymore. They are being murdered in the streets for attempting to bring flour home to their starving children. They are eating animal feed and bird seed. They are dying. I'm sorry that this caption doesn't really belong in the "hope" page, but it would be irresponsible and untruthful to talk about Palestinian food without addressing the current forced Palestinian starvation. I hope that the aid blockade ends. I hope that Palestinians are fed.

Joy is resistance

Free Gaza Circus

Spreading joy and laughter to displaced children living in refugee camps under Israeli occupation.

Activist community

Community is an act of resistance

Truly, we are nothing alone. Forming community and caring for that community is the greatest thing you can do in the face of oppressive capitalism and the obvious failure of our government systems to reflect the needs and wishes of the people who put them in power.

I have been on the road this year. I have been alone this year.

And the best connections I have made have been with people who are fighting for Palestinian liberation. It is the only thing we should be talking about, until we achieve freedom. So the community I can connect with is the one who feels that as strongly as I do, and are willing to set aside this fake normalcy that so many people are determined to maintain.

San Francisco stands with Palestine

A friend I met at a rally in the San Francisco city hall posted this video of her ride to the farmers market. San Francisco has not failed to show up for Palestine. From bridge blockade protests, to calls for a ceasefire, to painted messages, this is a community that does the work.

Thank you San Francisco, you are loved.
